What is a Dermatologist?

A doctor who specializes in the physiology and pathology of the skin, hair and nails. Dr. Stephanie Neider is a board certified dermatologist who specializes in diseases and condtions of the skin.

Are you at risk?

Some risk factors for skin cancer:

• A family history of skin cancer
• Fair skin
• Blonde or red hair
• Blue or green eyes
• History of long-term sun exsposure
• History of sunburns
• Tanning bed (your risk of getting skin cancer is incresead by 70% from using a tanning bed)

Do you know your A,B,C,D, and E's of Melanoma?

• A) Asymmetry
  • Where one half does not match the other half.  It can be in color, shape, size or thickness.
• B) Border Irregularity
  • The edges of a mole are bumpy, ragged or poorly defined.
• C) Color
  • There are different shades of tan, brown, black or red. There can also be shades of blue or white present.
• D) Diameter
  • Most normal moles are no bigger than 6mm, the size of a pencil eraser. Melanomas are usually 6mm when diagnosed but can vary in size.
    
• E) Evolving
  • If you notice a mole different from others or if a mole is changing in color, size and/or shape you should have a dermatologist look at it. If you have a mole (even small) that bleeds or itches you should have it looked at.

If you believe you are at risk for skin cancer it is a good idea to schedule a full-body skin cancer screening exam.  Make sure to check your birthday suit on your birthday!!
